Hey! I’m Tasha Randle, a down-to-earth girl that’s fiercely determined and loves to have a good time. I’m always about my business but can also be a lil’ goofy. I love God and also love a good trap song. Let’s just say I can’t be put into a box. Well, at least not anymore...
As a Black woman in corporate America I previously struggled to show up authentically and often felt like I needed to wear a mask to thrive. There would be moments I'd dare to bring my full self to work only to be reprimanded with raised eyebrows or "constructive" feedback that I was not listening enough to team members (read: being decisive got translated into aggressive/angry Black woman). Sound familiar?
So in order to succeed and truly thrive at the level my generation before me wasn't able to achieve, I felt I needed to continue wearing a mask and accept the fact that I'd always feel drained from being one person at work and another person at home.
Until one day the burden of not being who I truly wanted to be and doing what I truly wanted to do created an immense amount of friction in my soul. Not only would I need to wear a mask at work, I'd have to do work I dreaded. And to top it all off, I had to be honest with myself and recognize I had spent years pursuing society's definition of success only to wake up and not know what I truly wanted. I knew I wanted more, but I wasn't sure what that looked like so I couldn't really advocate for myself. How can I ask someone for what I want when I'm not crystal clear on what that is?!
Enough was enough. So I took 3 months off work to truly dive deep and understand who I was, who I wanted to be, the purpose God created me to serve and how I'd make it my reality. The result was so liberating, empowering and rewarding! I was able to return to work, advocate for and get what I wanted and feel more confident than ever bringing my full self to work.
Having had conversations with other Black women who had very similar experiences, I knew I wasn't alone in my struggles. So I started Real Talk Tasha to help other Black women define success on their terms, show up authentically and create careers that align with their purpose and values. In addition to this work, I fight within the walls of corporate America as a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion consultant to help create an environment that welcomes Black women as they are so they can thrive without feeling the need to wear a mask at work.
Oh, and of course I also do my other job as Director of Innovation for a Fortune 50 company where I identify consumer problems people often struggle to articulate and then develop strategies that help improve their lives with products that meet their needs.
